What Does It Taste Like?
Warm, aromatic, and gently sweet — cinnamon and cardamom up front, with cocoa depth, a smooth maple sweetness, and a soft background warmth from ginger and cayenne. It’s cozy without being heavy. Sweet without being sugary.
Most people describe it as the flavor their coffee has always been missing — the kind that makes the first sip feel like a small, deliberate pleasure.
How sweet is it? Gently sweet — not dessert-sweet. The maple sugar adds natural warmth rather than a sugary punch. Maple Sugar Fika Spice™ adds gentle maple sweetness. Sprinkle more or less and adjust to your taste. If you prefer no sweetness at all, try Original Fika Spice™ instead.
What Is Wisconsin Maple Sugar — and Why Does It Matter?
Maple sugar is made by evaporating the water from pure maple syrup until only the sugar crystals remain. It’s not refined cane sugar. It’s not an artificial sweetener. It’s the concentrated essence of maple — with a deeper, more complex sweetness than anything processed.
Wisconsin is one of the premier maple-producing regions in the United States. Our maple sugar comes from Wisconsin trees — tapped in late winter, processed locally, and added to every bottle of Maple Sugar Fika Spice™ without shortcuts.
Why does it pair so well with coffee? Because maple’s natural caramel notes complement the roasted depth of coffee in a way that refined sugar simply doesn’t. It rounds out bitterness, adds warmth, and lets the spices shine — rather than competing with them.
The Ten Ingredients Inside
Every ingredient is chosen for flavor, aroma, and its natural properties:
- Ceylon Cinnamon — warm, aromatic, and naturally rich in antioxidants. Smoother and more complex than standard grocery-shelf cinnamon.
- Cocoa — deep, smooth, and comforting
- Madagascar Vanilla Bean Powder — real vanilla, not extract. Aromatic and gently sweet.
- Ginger — bright and warming
- Cardamom — the heart of Scandinavian coffee culture. Floral, citrusy, and unmistakable.
- Nutmeg — cozy and aromatic
- Turmeric — earthy and golden
- Clove — bold and warming
- Cayenne — a gentle, lingering warmth. You won’t taste heat — just depth.
- Real Wisconsin Maple Sugar — pure, natural sweetness from local maple trees. No syrups. No processing shortcuts.
How to Use Fika Spice™
Sprinkle more or less into your coffee or tea and make your fika your own.
Some people sprinkle it on top. Others put it in the bottom of the cup and pour coffee over it. You can stir it, swirl it, or let the spices sit and release their aroma.
The maple sugar dissolves in hot drinks, while the spices disperse and release their flavor and aroma. Some spices may naturally settle — stir, swirl, or sprinkle on top and enjoy it your way.
Also delicious with oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, overnight oats, toast, pancakes, waffles, French toast, muffins, smoothies, and baked goods.
Works great in: ☕ Coffee & lattes · 🍵 Tea & chai · 🥣 Oatmeal & yogurt · 🥞 Pancakes & waffles · 🍞 Baking & pastries · 🍨 Desserts & sweet treats
How Is This Different from Syrups, Creamers, and Pumpkin Spice?
- Not a syrup — no liquid sugar, no pumps, no refrigeration. Real maple sugar in a jar.
- Not a creamer — no dairy, no oils, no artificial ingredients. Works in any coffee, any milk, any temperature.
- Not an artificial sweetener — real Wisconsin maple sugar from real Wisconsin trees. Your body recognizes it because it’s actual food.
- Not pumpkin spice — no seasonal gimmick. A daily ritual blend designed for year-round use.
- Not plain cinnamon — nine spices working together. Cinnamon is one note in a full chord, and maple sugar ties it all together.
An easy way to add real Wisconsin maple sugar, real spices, and layers of flavor to your daily coffee ritual.
What Is Fika? (And Why Does It Make Coffee Better?)
Fika (pronounced fee-kah) is a Swedish tradition — a daily moment to slow down, make a great cup of coffee, and actually enjoy it. Not at your desk. Not in a rush. Just a warm drink and a few minutes that are yours.
In Sweden, fika is taken seriously. It’s not optional. It’s a cultural institution built around the idea that slowing down makes everything else better.
Fika Spice™ was created to bring that ritual into your morning. We’re Holly and John Ellenson, a family in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, and we’ve been handcrafting this blend since day one. Every batch. Every bottle.
Questions We Hear All the Time
Does it replace sugar in my coffee?
Maple Sugar Fika Spice™ adds gentle maple sweetness. Whether you use another sweetener depends on your taste. Sprinkle more or less and adjust until the sweetness and layers of flavor are right for you.
Does it replace creamer?
It won’t add creaminess, but it adds so much flavor and warmth that many customers find they no longer want creamer. It works beautifully in black coffee, with milk, or with any dairy-free alternative.
Does it taste artificial?
No. Real maple sugar has a depth and complexity that artificial sweeteners can’t replicate. If you’ve ever tasted real maple syrup on pancakes and thought “this is completely different from the fake stuff,” that’s the same difference here.
What is maple sugar, exactly?
Maple sugar is pure maple syrup with the water evaporated out — leaving only the sugar crystals. It’s more concentrated in flavor than maple syrup, and has a lower glycemic index than refined cane sugar.
Does Fika Spice dissolve in coffee?
Fika Spice™ is made from real ground spices, so it does not completely dissolve like sugar or an instant powder. The spices disperse and release their flavor and aroma in the coffee. Some may naturally settle. Stir, swirl, sprinkle on top, or enjoy it your own way.
How much do I use?
There is no required measurement. Sprinkle more or less and adjust until the sweetness and layers of flavor are right for you.
Is it worth $12?
A simple way to add real spices and layers of flavor to your daily coffee ritual. Most customers say it’s the upgrade their morning routine needed.
